Circumcision without stitches, rings or staples
Circumcision is a very common surgery done for adults and children with tight foreskins, infections or as a method to maintain hygiene and reduce the risk of infections.
Currently circumcision surgical techniques involve the use of stitches, staplers or even plastic rings that the patient has to wear home on the penis. This can be cumbersome and increases the risk of bleeding and pain.
At our medical center, we offer a circumcision technique using a unique tissue glue. This glue hold the skin together as it heals without having to use stitches, rings or staplers. This technique offers several advantages including:
Will the surgery be painful?
No. The surgery can be done under Local Anesthesia (awake) or General Anesthesia (asleep). We assure all our patients that the procedure will be completely painless. For local anesthesia, we will check and ensure the area is completely numb before proceeding with the procedure. For general anesthesia, we ensure that our patients wake up completely pain free.
Is the glue strong enough to hold the skin together?
Yes. We use a tissue glue with 2 binding polymers that hold the skin edges strongly together. It is also flexible and will not crack with movement of the penis skin. The glue also acts as a barrier preventing bacteria from invading the wound.
Will the glue discolour the skin?
No. We use a dye free formula glue. There will be no discoloration of the skin.
How is the excess foreskin removed?
The excess foreskin is removed using a laser or an electrosurgical unit. This allows us to determine the exact amount and shape of the skin to be removed. Unlike rings and staplers which have a pre-determined shape and size. With laser skin removal we can tailor and style the circumcision to best suit your medical needs. The skin edges are then brought together and held securely with glue.
How long does it take for the glue to dry?
The glue dries in less than 1 minute. Patients can start to shower after 1 hour.
Is there a need to re-apply the glue?
No. A single application is enough to hold the skin together until it is completely healed. The glue will then gradually dissolve away on its own.
